Fire Extinguisher Service

Inspection, maintenance, hydrostatic testing, and live fire extinguisher training for your team.

NFPA 10

Fire extinguishers are the first line of defense in any fire emergency. IFS inspects, services, and maintains portable and wheeled fire extinguishers for businesses across Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties. We also provide hands-on live fire training so your employees know exactly how to respond.

Service and Inspection

  • Annual inspections - visual examination, tamper seal verification, pressure gauge check, and condition assessment per NFPA 10
  • 6-year maintenance - internal examination of stored-pressure extinguishers, replacement of components as needed
  • 12-year hydrostatic testing - pressure testing of cylinders to verify structural integrity
  • Recharging - refilling discharged extinguishers with the correct agent type and quantity

We tag and document every extinguisher serviced, providing records that satisfy your fire marshal’s inspection requirements.

Live Fire Training

Reading a label is not the same as using an extinguisher under pressure. IFS conducts live fire training sessions at your facility or an approved outdoor location. Participants learn:

  • Proper extinguisher selection for different fire classes (A, B, C, K)
  • The PASS technique (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep)
  • When to fight a fire and when to evacuate
  • How to inspect your own extinguishers between professional service visits

Training sessions can be customized for office staff, warehouse teams, kitchen crews, or industrial workers.

The Right Extinguisher in the Right Place

Not every extinguisher belongs everywhere. IFS evaluates your facility layout, hazard types, and occupancy to recommend the correct extinguisher types, sizes, and placement, meeting code requirements while ensuring practical accessibility.

We supply and install extinguishers from Amerex, Kidde, and Badger.

We serve: Ventura , Oxnard , Thousand Oaks , Camarillo , Simi Valley , Moorpark , Santa Barbara , Goleta , Carpinteria , Santa Maria , Lompoc and surrounding communities in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often do fire extinguishers need to be serviced?
Fire extinguishers require monthly visual inspections (which you can do in-house), annual professional inspections per NFPA 10, six-year internal maintenance for stored-pressure units, and 12-year hydrostatic pressure testing. IFS handles all professional service intervals.
What is a 6-year fire extinguisher maintenance?
At the six-year mark, NFPA 10 requires stored-pressure fire extinguishers to be emptied, internally examined, and recharged. This goes beyond the annual visual inspection and verifies that internal components are functioning correctly and the agent is at proper charge.
Does my business need fire extinguisher training?
OSHA requires that employees designated to use fire extinguishers receive training upon initial assignment and annually thereafter (29 CFR 1910.157). IFS provides live fire extinguisher training so your team practices with real equipment, not just a video.
What type of fire extinguisher does a restaurant need?
Restaurants need Class K extinguishers within 30 feet of commercial cooking equipment per NFPA 96, plus Class ABC extinguishers for general areas. IFS evaluates your kitchen layout and places extinguishers to meet code while keeping them accessible to staff.
